One of the most representative symbols of the Olympic Port are the two 156-meter high skyscrapers that rise next to it, the Mapfre Tower and the Hotel Arts, visible from any point of Barcelona. Its presence greatly facilitates the approach to the boats.
The port was built in 1991 to host the sailing competitions of the 1992 Olympic Games and at the same time to act as a catalyst for an urban change of the north coast of the city. The result is a rectangular structure with three closing dikes of more than 7 meters in height and a space of approximately 8 ha. It has 740 moorings for boats up to 30 meters in length.
The Olympic Port of Barcelona is nowadays one of the best leisure areas of the Catalan capital, with a wide range of nightclubs, bars and restaurants.
