The Expiatory Church of Sagrat Cor, work of the Catalan architect Enric Sagnier i Villavecchia completed by his son Josep Maria Sagnier i Vidal, is located on top of Mount Tibidabo. By design, location and name reminds us the Parisian church of Sacré Coeur.

Built between 1902 and 1961, the temple is formed by a lower crypt with walled appearance and the monumental upper church, neo-Gothic. The three-nave church is is square in shape, with the central nave covered with an octagonal dome. In the main altar stands out the large crucifix, a work by Joan Puigdollers. The top consists of a large central tower crowned by the image of the Sacred Heart and four smaller towers.

Inside there is a lift which for a fee allows access to the top of the temple. From there you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views.

Highlights

✔ The crypt, designed in a neo-Byzantine style, combining Gothic and classical elements, and decoration close to Modernisme.
✔ The huge bronze statue of Christ which crowns the dome, 7 half meters tall, made by Josep Miret in 1950, replacing the original destroyed in 1936.
✔ The main facade, divided into three sections.
✔ The beautiful views over Barcelona and surroundings.
